Health Science Major:
Students who wish to major in Health Science should contact above academic advisors to explore the program.
Nursing Major:
Nursing is a competitive entry program. Students must take a specific group of courses in order to complete the university core curriculum and pre-requisites in time to apply to the Nursing program. Students typically apply to the generic Nursing program the spring semester of the sophomore year. Students are accepted on the basis of GPA (3.0 in last 60 hours of course work) and completion of required coursework. Nursing courses start in the fall for students who have been accepted into that year’s Nursing program.
Questions about Nursing and Health Science programs, course and GPA requirements, transfer courses, course equivalency and applications to the Nursing and Health Science programs should be directed to Academic Advisor.
Freshman students and transfer who have declared Nursing as their major are assigned a Nursing faculty mentor. This mentor helps you with course choices that guide you toward your goal of admission to the Nursing program. Make an appointment with your faculty mentor to review courses you have already taken and outline the sequence of courses you need to take. Not all courses are offered each semester and some courses are offered especially for Nursing students.
Make your appointment early as your faculty mentor has special
office hours set aside to see you. Faculty mentors post appointment
hours on their office doors.
You can find contact information for your mentor by using the
TAMUCC Phonebook
on the TAMU-CC homepage.
Students who have no assigned faculty mentor should make an appointment with above academic advisors. Academic advisor can assist you with registration and degree plan review.
Degree Plans
Degree Plans for Nursing and Health Science students will be initiated when you declare Nursing or Health Science as your major and make an advising appointment. The goal of your advising appointment is to examine your degree plan and set up a sequence of courses to allow you to complete the plan, gain acceptance to the Nursing program and graduate.
Students who need to make an appointment with academic advisor should stop by FC 162 and sign up for a time on appointment calendar.
