Technical Requirements- What Your Computer Needs to Have

Internet Access

The computer must be able to connect to the Internet and allow the student to browse the World Wide Web.

Hardware

Because WebCT is a web based application which does not run on the desktop computer, there are not any stated hardware requirements. If users are running a supported browser with the required configuration, they will almost certainly have the required hardware to be able to use WebCT.

Check Your Browser in WebCT

A browser is the tool that lets your computer "read" the pages on the World Wide Web. Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator are two of the most popular browsers; others are also available.

Windows OS Microsoft IE 5.0, 5.5, 6.0, 7

In WebCT, you can check your browser to ensure that it is configured correctly.

  1. Go to the website where you log into WebCT. ( Island Online )
  2. After logging in, look for a Check Browser link, in the top right corner of the browser window.
  3. Click the Check Browser link to start the Browser Checker.

If the browser is not compatible, users can access WebCT's Browser Tune-Up Page from the Check Broswer screen to download a compatible browser or visit the "Browser Tuneup" page on WebCT's Web site for the latest details on approved browers, how to configure to your browser, and help with plug-in programs that your course may utilize.
